Turlock hospital cites bad economy while cutting 22 positions
Modesto Bee

Citing a growing patient base that is unable to pay for care, Emanuel Medical Center announced Wednesday it will lay off 22 people, or 1.5 percent of its work force. “These are the first, I guess you could say, economy-related layoffs,” said John Sigsbury, Emanuel’s president and chief executive officer. The hospital previously reduced its maternity department when Kaiser opened its hospital in Modesto, moving members to that location.
