Thousands join uninsured ranks

The number of San Bernardino County residents without health care insurance soared by more than 125,000 between 2007 and 2009, a study released Monday says. The percentage who were uninsured for all or part of 2009 in San Bernardino County was 25.1 percent, up from 20 percent in 2007, according to the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research.

Similar growth was seen in Riverside County, where the percentage of uninsured increased from 22.6 percent in 2007 to 28 percent in 2009, for a gain of more than 144,000 people.
