SVMH workers seek layoff renegotiations after union change
The Californian - Salinas

The certification of Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital workers’ union switch is unlikely to help them renegotiate recent buyouts and layoffs, officials said Tuesday. Hospital workers want to go back to the bargaining table after the Public Employment Relations Board, a quasi-judicial state agency, last week approved the workers’ decision to join the National Union of Healthcare Workers.

“We’re asking management to revisit their decision,” said Leighton Woodhouse, spokesman for the NUHW. “Of course, we want them to change their minds in the process.”
