Sutter Health will begin construction as early as today on its new Elk Grove surgery center, officials announced in a brief ceremony at the site on Tuesday.

“We’re building a surgical home for our patients,” said physician Andrew Hudnut, a Sutter Medical Group vice president.

The yearlong, $10.8 million project is expected to employ about 160 construction workers and will boost Sutter’s Elk Grove staff to 275 physicians and staff from its current 257 when it opens in June 2012.
