State releases ratings on CA health insurers, HMOs

Most health maintenance organizations in California compare well with plans nationwide, but too often new policyholders are confused about costs and getting their claims paid, according to a new state report. California Office of the Patient Advocate Director Sandra Perez said Thursday her agency’s annual report card incentivizes the health care industry to improve care. “It’s imperative that health care consumers know that quality matters and — as the report card clearly shows — quality varies,” said Perez.
