State raiding federal matching funds would hurt trauma care centers in Alameda County

Legislators in Sacramento are on the verge of ratifying a measure that could strip Alameda County of nearly $1.5 million in special funding dedicated to emergency medical services, critical pediatric trauma care at local hospitals and a nationally recognized post-care treatment program for uninsured victims of gunshot wounds. The state’s Budget and Fiscal Review Committee is recommending that $55 million from the state’s Emergency Medical Services fund, known as the “Maddy Fund,” be redirected into a federally insured program they say will receive federal matching funds.
