State adopts nation’s first health care access standards
Sacramento Business Journal - Kathy Robertson, Staff Writer

California became the first state in the nation this week to adopt standards regarding the time it takes for HMO patients to see a doctor. Managed care plans must begin using the standards within a year, but most are expected to comply as soon as possible. “Timely access to comprehensive health care services is critical for both diagnosis and treatment, and these regulations will ensure nearly 21 million Californians can access physicians and other health services in a quick and appropriate manner,” Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said in a press release Tuesday.
