Spending on cancer care expected to rise

Spending on cancer care in the U.S. may grow 27% to $207 billion by 2020 if new technologies and treatments add 5% a year to medical costs and trends in survival and prevalence persist, according to a new study from National Institutes of Health.

Researchers crunched the figures with a variety of assumptions in an analysis appearing in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute and provided data that can be manipulated to generate custom graphs at costprojections.cancer.gov.
