Seismic rebuilds roll, others hit resistance
San Francisco Business Times

A hospital building boom, driven in part by state seismic mandates, is recreating the region’s inpatient facilities — but at a huge cost. Almost $14 billion in building work is completed, in progress or planned in the Bay Area to meet California’s seismic deadlines. That includes more than $1.4 billion of hospital construction that has been finished in recent months; roughly $9 billion in projects that are moving through the pipeline; and another $3.4 billion or more tied to projects at California Pacific Medical Center, Marin General Hospital and Seton Medical Center that face political or financial hurdles.
