San Francisco To Continue Universal Health Care Despite New Federal Law

The passage of a national health care reform law Tuesday raised the question of whether some city health care programs would continue, but San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom said his city’s program would remain intact. The St. Anthony Free Clinic in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district sees 3,000 uninsured patients a year—just a fraction of the 53,000 residents included in Healthy SF, the city’s program that offers prevention and primary care coverage.
