Same-sex couples sue over state insurance
San Francisco Chronicle

As a nurse at UCSF, Michael Dragovich is one of more than 165,000 state employees enrolled in a long-term health care plan that offers discount prices and future tax benefits. He can sign up virtually any member of his family – except his husband.

“I could enroll a sibling, a stepparent or an in-law into long-term care coverage, but not the one person closest to me,” Dragovich, 51, said Tuesday as his lawyers sued the federal and state governments for excluding same-sex partners from the health plan.
