Kristian Sandoval and Kristine Ibanez say it’s “the hardest thing in the world” to walk out of the neonatal intensive care unit at Sutter Memorial Hospital, leaving behind their tiny baby girl.

They don’t have to go far.

Sandoval and Ibanez are staying in an RV in the hospital parking lot while Anais Giselle Sandoval, who was born three months premature, is cared for in the intensive care unit known as NICU.
