Reluctant hospital district signs option to buy Wellness Center

A year and a half after opening a large fitness center and medical office building in Carlsbad, Tri-City Healthcare District is trying to shed the expensive lease after suffering an unprecedented $18 million loss in the past year.

The public hospital district, which operates Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside, signed an option to buy the complex for $47 million although the district lists the center on its books as an asset worth $33 million.
