Public Health Department proposes cuts to save $1.3 million

Families whose children benefit from a state-mandated program that guarantees them specialty care for severe illnesses and disabilities on Monday begged the Riverside County Board of Supervisors to spare it from $1.3 million in proposed cuts.

Penny Slater, of Hemet, told supervisors that her severely disabled granddaughter, Pearl Ferro, would be eliminated from the California Children’s Services program if the county makes the proposed reductions. Her family can’t afford the medical care and therapy Pearl needs to thrive.
