Probe of state nurses’ histories launched

Inland hospital administrators and health care organizations say thorough employment screenings and limited use of temporary agencies are among steps they take to avoid hiring nurses who might be hiding histories of disciplinary actions taken in other states.

Last month the California Board of Registered Nursing said an estimated 3,500 licensed California nurses have been barred in other states from working in medicine because of misconduct including sexual abuse, neglect, ongoing drug use and criminal behavior.
