Physicians and hospitals must partner to survive

As health care reform continues to unfold, one of the elements we can expect to hear more about is the establishment of accountable care organizations (ACOs). An ACO is a coordinated group of health care providers (physicians, hospitals and others) that agrees to manage the care of a population of patients with a focus on delivering high quality care as efficiently as possible. Federal rules on ACOs are expected soon in order to launch the first ones next January.
