Patients throughout state have access to information on hospital fines

Another tool to help patients find the best hospital has been released by a California organization. The Center for Investigative Reporting, an independent nonpartisan group, compiled a list of hospitals that had been fined for not reporting mistakes. California regulators have fined hospitals just over $1 million for failing to report incidents, such as leaving a foreign object in a patient after surgery or operating on the wrong person, according to data from the California Department of Public Health.
