Each year, nearly 100,000 people die from hospital-acquired infections, 12,000 in California alone. This alarming fact provided the backdrop for a recent series of articles in the Sacramento Bee, produced in conjunction with the California Health Care Foundation’s Center for Health Care Reporting. Although legislation aimed at combating this crisis was passed by the California Legislature in both 2006 and 2008, implementation of the regulations has faltered.
