One-third uninsured is unacceptable

In this county, plagued by high unemployment and terrible poverty rates, the percentage of those without health-care insurance is 30.6 percent. That is the fourth-highest rate in the state and well above the statewide average of 24.3 percent, according to a report released Monday.

In Imperial County only 35.6 percent of the population is covered by private health insurance. Medi-Cal/Healthy Families provides coverage for 28.5 percent of Imperial County residents and 5.2 percent have other types of coverage.
