Rodney Brooks jokes he was born a 180-pound baby because he can’t remember ever weighing less than that. The 6-foot-tall south Sacramento resident weighed 190 in junior high and 232 in high school, when he was told he had to gain at least 40 pounds to be considered for the college football squad. Scrubbed from the football field early on due to injury, Brooks’ weight soared to 369 pounds before he decided at age 48 to undergo gastric bypass surgery so his stomach would hold less food.
