Nurses group pushing timeouts to boost safety

Taking a few extra minutes to properly follow safety protocols can make a world of difference in preventing errors such as wrong-site surgery, and one nurses organization is launching a campaign to make sure those timeouts actually occur. On June 16, the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses, or AORN, a Denver-based professional organization representing more than 40,000 nurses, will launch its Time Out Commitment, a year-long campaign aimed at increasing awareness of and compliance with timeout procedures.
