Nurse: More middle-class patients accessing system

Alice DeLaurie-O’Neil has worked as a nurse at Planned Parenthood for the past year and a half. Increasingly, she and others at the clinic on McHenry Avenue in Modesto see middle-class patients in their 40s and 50s coming into the clinic for the first time — with no insurance.

Some of these women say haven’t had a pap smear for years. Some say they’ve felt a breast lump for the past two years, but didn’t have the money to get it checked.
