New tower makes Rady Children’s largest pediatric hospital in state

When Rady Children’s Hospital opens its new 4-story building next month and expands its capacity from 288 licensed beds to 442, it will become the largest pediatric acute care hospital in California.

But size isn’t everything at the region’s only children’s hospital and trauma center, which handles 83 percent of pediatric surgeries and all pediatric bone marrow transplants in San Diego and Imperial counties.
