New state law clamps down on nurse ratios in care facilities

Skilled nursing homes in California will face penalties if they don’t meet staffing ratios as required by the state, under a new law. As part of the reauthorization of AB 1629 — part of the health budget trailer bill signed last week by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger — nursing homes will be audited to make sure they’re in compliance with the state’s 3.2 staffing standard.
