Kaiser Permanente opened a new helipad Monday at its South Sacramento medical center that officials say will help trauma staff more quickly care for severely ill and injured patients brought in from outlying areas. “An ambulance can get someone to the hospital fast, but if they are in a remote area, transporting them by helicopter can mean the difference between life and death,” said Dr. Joe Karam, Chief of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care at Kaiser South, in a statement on Monday.
