Nearly 178,000 Californians get COBRA subsidy

A federal program that provides a 65% subsidy for COBRA health insurance premiums aided at least 177,689 households in California last year at a cost of $225 million, reports the U.S. Treasury Department. As of March 31, the government had paid out $2.1 billion in COBRA subsidies nationwide. Nearly 2.2 million households received the aid.
