Monterey County to weigh trauma center

After two straight years of scrutiny from the civil grand jury, Monterey County is on the verge of finishing an update of its four-year-old trauma care system plan, which includes designating the area’s first trauma center to treat the most serious injuries.

Two area hospitals, Natividad Medical Center and Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital, have for some time been studying the feasibility of seeking official recognition as a Level II trauma center, which would have the capacity to handle nearly all major injuries.
