‘Mini-med’ plans face Senate scrutiny

Limited-benefit health plans, also known as “mini-med” plans, fell under scrutiny at a Senate committee hearing, with McDonald’s and other employers in the hot seat.

Sen. John D. Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) outgoing chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, convened the hearing, saying mini-med plans give “people a false sense of security. It makes them think they have health insurance when they really don’t.”
