Medicare terminates St. Joseph’s Surgery Center for violations

St. Joseph’s Surgery Center – operated as a separate entity from the hospital where it is housed – will no longer be paid for outpatient surgeries rendered to Medicare and Medi-Cal patients beginning Dec. 15 due to serious violations discovered during two inspections last summer.

The violations include a lack of oversight ensuring the safety of patients during surgeries, unsanitary conditions, questionable administration of anesthesia, substandard infection control, the use of expired drugs, and numerous fire safety and electrical hazards.
