Medical costs forcing some hard choices for millions in California

Erick Florendo works at the Family Resource Center, which provides food, shelter, clothing and other needed services, so he sees firsthand people’s struggles to afford basics like medical care. Florendo said he knows of one woman who had to choose between a needed medical treatmentand paying her rent.

Another man who came to the center for help had a “medically fragile daughter,” whose treatment was going to cost $900 upfront, he said.
