Many questions on health care spending accounts

With open enrollment season for health care plans coming up for many employees, it’s time to answer questions from readers about flexible spending accounts.

Many employers offer these accounts, which let employees set aside part of their salary to pay for qualified health care or child care expenses. Money that goes into these accounts, also called FSAs, escape income, Social Security and Medicare taxes. Employees can get reimbursed from their accounts when they submit receipts for qualified expenses.
