Making Patients Part of Accountable Care

Accountable care organizations, or A.C.O.’s, are quickly becoming the “it” girl of the health care overhaul, garnering admiration from policy makers, researchers, third-party payers and politicians of all stripes. Scheduled to become part of Medicare within a year, these partnerships between clinicians and hospitals will cut costs by making providers responsible for the health care of a set group of patients.
