Low health literacy tied to variety of problems, AHRQ report finds

Patients with limited health literacy are more likely to be hospitalized, have a greater likelihood of taking medications incorrectly and are less likely to seek out preventive screenings such as mammograms, according to an updated report from HHS‘ Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.

Low health literacy also is associated with a higher risk of mortality, according to the authors of the report.
