Lawmaker tells GOP governors to press Congress on FMAP

Republican governors “need to step forward” and call upon their congressional lawmakers to extend additional Medicaid benefits in their states, Rep. Robert Andrews (D-N.J.) said during a briefing in Washington.

Attempts in both the House and Senate to temporarily increase the federal Medicaid matching rate, or FMAP, as well as extend a private insurance benefit for people who lose their jobs, recently failed because of a lack of votes, Andrews said.
