Lawmaker questions AMA stance

A leading Senate Republican knocked the American Medical Association over its negotiations on the new health reform law, saying it abandoned two of its long-standing priorities. Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.), a physician, said he was sympathetic to the association’s call for payment reform, but added that the AMA lost a major opportunity by not pressing for it during the framing of the reform package.
