Kaiser sees slight dip in profit, gains members in 2010

Kaiser Permanente generated net income of $2 billion in 2010, a slight drop from $2.1 billion in 2009, company officials reported Friday. Total operating revenue increased to $44.2 billion last year, up from $42.1 billion in 2009. The numbers translate to a profit margin of 4.5 percent, down from 5 percent in 2009. Kaiser is a nonprofit health plan and health system, so profits go back into the business.
