Insurer switch saves city, employees money
Chico Enterprise Record

The city of Chico has been able to take at least one pressure off its staff, switching health insurance providers in an effort to save the city and employees money. This spring, the city was notified that its insurance provider, Blue Shield, was planning to increase the city’s rates by 40.6 percent or $900,000. Already facing a $6.7 million deficit over the next two years, the city could not afford the extra costs.
