Home health agencies are not reporting mandated outcomes and assessment data properly and the CMS could do a better job of ensuring they do, according to a report from HHS‘ inspector general’s office.

Officials for the inspector general’s office found that home health agencies did not report required Outcome and Assessment Information Set data, known as OASIS data, in 6% of claims in 2009, representing more than $1 billion worth of claims, according to the 19-page report, called Limited Oversight of Home Health Agency OASIS Data. Fifteen percent of OASIS data sets were turned in late.
