Industry Aims at Medicare Board

In the new political reality in Washington, the drug industry, hospitals and doctors’ groups are setting their sights on the elimination of a little-known provision of the health care overhaul that some experts identify as the biggest cost-cutter of all. The Independent Payment Advisory Board would have the power to rein in Medicare payments beginning in 2015 unless Congress acted each year to achieve similar cost-cutting targets.
