The House Appropriations Committee allocated $2.2 billion for the Food and Drug Administration for fiscal 2012, or about 11.5% less than its current funding. The panel’s late Tuesday vote also set expected user fees at $1.5 billion, which would bring the agency’s total budget to $3.7 billion. The combined total of appropriations and user fees is nearly $9 million more than the agency’s fiscal 2011 budget but about $560 million less than requested by President Barack Obama. The fees on applicants included about $856 million for prescription drugs and $67 million for medical devices.
