Hospitals turn toward asking visitors for ID

Patients at hospitals and doctors’ offices are used to providing reams of information about themselves.

Now, people visiting patients at one Coachella Valley hospital are being asked to present their drivers licenses at the door, and a similar policy is being considered at a second one.

Since October, Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage has been running licenses or other photo IDs through a scanner so the information stored on the magnetic strip can be added to a computer database.
