Hospitals learning to stay in budget

In a down economy producing more patients without insurance, public safety-net hospitals across the state are under a new round of financial pressure. But years of belt-tightening – in some cases before the recession – are paying off for some public hospitals around the state, including Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. Frank Arambula, Arrowhead Regional’s chief financial officer, predicts San Bernardino County’s hospital will end its fiscal year on June 30 in the black by about $2 million.
