Hospitals ask federal judge to block state from freezing Medi-Cal payments

The state and California’s hospitals are in a pitched battle in Sacramento federal court over the state’s plan to freeze reimbursement rates to hospitals for inpatient care of Medi-Cal beneficiaries.

After 1 1/2 hours of argument today on the California Hospital Association’s motion for a preliminary injunction that would block the freeze, U. S. District Judge Frank C. Damrell Jr. said he will rule next week.
