Hospital unveils cancer center plans
Bakersfield Californian

San Joaquin Community Hospital broke ground Tuesday on what would become Bakersfield’s fourth cancer center, a $36 million facility that competitors said could benefit the community by lowering treatment costs and improving service to patients.

Hospital President & CEO Bob Beehler said the four-story center, expected to create 100 good jobs when it opens next year on the northwest corner of K and 27th streets downtown, was needed to serve a region with one of the nation’s highest cancer rates, where he said one in five patients leaves town for treatment.
