Hospital finances improve

A midyear look at San Joaquin General Hospital shows its finances continuing to improve.

In the first half of the fiscal year that began in July, the hospital lost about $3.8 million, according to a report delivered to the county Board of Supervisors on Tuesday. That’s a $2 million improvement compared to the first six months of the previous year’s budget, according to the report.

And it’s a marked improvement over earlier, multimillion-dollar deficits that had officials wondering whether the county could afford a hospital in such dire financial shape.
