Hospital confused by announcement of fine paid last year

The U.S. Attorney’s office out of Fresno announced Wednesday that Bakersfield’s San Joaquin Community Hospital had agreed to pay $734,096 to settle violations with the government.

SJCH officials, however, are slightly confused by the announcement coming at this time, because it’s old news, they said.

Jarrod McNaughton, vice president at SJCH, said Wednesday afternoon that the infractions occurred back in 2007, and the settlement was paid last year. He said, however, that the government didn’t cash the check until last week, which may explain the announcement now.
