HHS outlines stance on exclusionary actions

HHS’ inspector general’s office is explaining its approach to booting owners and corporate officers from federal health programs if they knew or should have known their companies or organizations were involved in healthcare fraud and other criminal offenses.

In recent months officials have publicly voiced an intention to use the authority to target individuals. The new guidance (PDF) spells out the legal foundation for doing so under the Social Security Act and a framework for executing that authority.
