Heart transplant pioneer joins UCSD
San Diego Union-Tribune

Dr. Jack Copeland, a noted cardiac surgeon who helped pioneer the use of artificial hearts in the 1980s, has joined UCSD Medical Center, where he will help relaunch a heart transplant program that was shut down in 2007 because of low volume.

Copeland’s arrival comes 10 months before the University of California San Diego finishes building a $232 million cardiovascular center on its Thornton Hospital campus in La Jolla.
