Health reform squashes ‘flexible’ spending

Health care reform begins to kick in this year, and one aspect of the new regulations will definitely put the kibosh on an area of employee savings — the flexible spending account. Pre-2011, if you contributed to an employer’s flexible spending plan, you were able to purchase a number of over-the-counter items with those pre-tax dollars. That was in addition to putting aside dollars for standard medical needs such as doctor visits, co-payments and hospital bills.
