Health Net to proceed with premium hikes
Sacramento Bee

Health Net will go ahead with its plan to raise health insurance premiums by an average of 16.5 percent on 38,000 customers who buy coverage on their own, after it was cleared to do so by state regulators. The California Department of Insurance said the insurer’s rate filing complied with state law, which requires insurers to spend at least 70 cents of every premium dollar on direct medical care. The state agency has no authority to reject rates that comply with the standard.
